A beautiful town at the foot of the Harz Mountains. Located in western Saxony, in the Harz region, it is very convenient to travel from Lower Sagersen and Thuringia. It's also great to go for a hike.
The steam train across the Harz departs from here, up to the Brocken Peak.
Next to the town is a castle, named Schloss Wernigerode. Minimal entrance fees required to enter the castle.
The town is full of old German buildings. The terrain is relatively high and it is easy to accumulate snow. Enjoy the beautiful scenery especially during winter season.
