The city in northwestern Belgium's Flanders region was once a major nexus of trade in medieval Europe, and of art and architecture during the Renaissance. Brugge's historic center has retained its character through the centuries and is now designated a UNESCO World Heritage site.
There are stone-built houses left over from the Middle Ages, magnificent steeple church halls, intricately carved flower bell towers and courts. Rouge dug a crisscross canal river in the city as early as possible, and the houses were built near the water, with the style of "Northern Nevis"
