Kota Kinabalu (KK) is the state capital of Sabah that is located on East Malaysia and the northern portion of Borneo. It is a major tourist destination for travelers visiting Sabah and Borneo. Surrounded by beautiful beaches, tropical islands and scenic sceneries, KK and its outlying areas are natural tourist magnets - home to a plentiful range of hotels offering luxury and budget accommodation for family and business, with a few exclusive world-class complexes that occupy entire bays.
The nearest airport to reach KK is Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA/ BKI), which is Malaysia's second busiest airport and the main gateway to Sabah. The airport is situated around 7km from Sabah city center.
Travelling around KK can via public transport or hire private drivers/ vehicles. We highly recommend visitors to get private vehicles to be more convenient for long distance.
